1909 – 1992
Klopfenstein’s was an upscale men’s clothing store based in Seattle. It was started in 1909 by Clarence Klopfenstein.In 1967 the stores were sold to the Chicago based Hartmarx Corporation. Hartmarx expanded the company opening stores in Alaska, Portland and Oregon. By 1990 Hartmarx began to struggle they sold all the stores and by 1993 all the Klepfenstein’s stores were closed.
