1898 – 2007
Eckerds was a massive chain of drug stores at its peak there was 2,800 stores.Founded in 1898 by J. Milton Eckerd and Z. Tatom in Erie, Pennsylvania. In 1961 the company went Public. In 1998 Eckerds and J.C. Penny agreed to Merge forming the largest drug store chain in the country. In July 2004 J.C. Penny sold all the Eckerd stores on the eastern seaboard to the Jean Coutu Group and the other stores were sold to CVS. By 2007 all Eckerd stores had been converted to either a CVS or a Rite Aid.
