1901 – 1980
Harris Weingarten and his son, Joseph founded Weingarten’s in 1901 in downtown Houston, Texas. By the time is was bout out it had 104 stores. In 1980 it was bought by Grand Union who then began to resell all of the stores. Most of the stores turned into Safeways.
